Saros Director Shrugs Off PC Release Question, Leaving Sony’s Exclusive Plans in the Air

Saros, the new game from Housemarque

Saros, the new game from Housemarque, is gearing up to launch on PS5 soon. But when asked if it’s coming to PC, the director just didn’t bite. Gregory Louden, who’s steering the ship at Housemarque, kept it tight-lipped about any PC plans, saying, “Today we’re only talking about Saros and the launch on the PlayStation 5.” That’s it. No hints, no promises.

Why the silence on PC? Sony seems to be tightening the reins

This silence isn’t happening in a vacuum. Sony reportedly is stepping back from releasing its big single-player games on PC, a shift from what we’ve seen before. Remember how Returnal, also by Housemarque, landed on PC two years after its PS5 debut? That might not happen for Saros.

Sources close to the situation say Sony is reconsidering its strategy. Games like Ghost of Yōtei and Wolverine, which were expected to hit PC, may now stay PlayStation-only. This move could be about protecting the PS5 ecosystem as it dominates the current console generation.

It’s also a reaction to the growing competition from Microsoft and Valve. Microsoft is pushing a console that supports rival game stores, and Valve’s Steam Deck is carving out its own space. Sony might not want its exclusive hits like Spider-Man 2 available on those platforms.

Saros looks promising but might stay locked to PS5 for now

Housemarque’s previous game, Returnal, got rave reviews and a PC port that felt like it was worth the wait. Critics praised its smooth controls, unique story loop, and intense action. Saros seems to follow in that bullet-hell, sci-fi shooter vibe, but with a less punishing feel.

Still, with the director not dropping any clues on a PC release, all we can do is wait and watch. Sony’s move towards keeping Saros exclusive is a clear sign that they want to keep the PS5 shiny and special for now.

So if you’re hoping to play Saros on your gaming rig, it might be time to dust off the PS5 instead.
