Metro 2039 Leak Points to Reveal at Xbox Showcase This Week

The Metro series looks ready to return. A recent gameplay leak, along with insider reports, suggests that the next entry, Metro 2039, could be officially revealed during a Microsoft Xbox event on April 16.

It’s a big moment for fans. The last mainline entry, Metro Exodus, launched back in 2019, and players have been waiting years to see where the series goes next.

Leak and Insider Report Hint at Metro 2039 Reveal

So, here’s the scoop: a well-known insider named NateTheHate, who has a solid track record of nailing Nintendo Direct dates and other reveals, shared that Metro 2039 is the next chapter coming our way. The reveal is planned as part of an Xbox showcase that hasn’t been officially announced yet, but is expected this week. We don’t know if the show will include other Xbox first-party news, but the Metro announcement is definitely on the menu.

What’s cool is that this isn’t coming out of nowhere. The developer, 4A Games, has mentioned working on a new Metro game before. What’s new is the name and some leaked gameplay footage that popped up recently, giving us a glimpse of what the game might look like. Fans of the series will likely recognize the blend of survival, horror, and post-apocalyptic tunnel crawling that Metro games have nailed so well.

For those not fully in the loop, Metro games are based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s books, set in a grim, post-apocalyptic Russia where humanity survives underground. The series includes Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, and Metro Exodus. There’s also Metro Awakening, a VR title released in 2024.

Why Metro 2039 Is a Big Deal for Fans

Metro Exodus came out back in 2019 and was well-received. IGN gave it an 8.5 out of 10, praising how it brought survival horror out into the open without losing its signature tension. Since then, fans have been waiting quietly for something new, so this reveal is a big deal. If the leaked footage is anything to go by, Metro 2039 could push the series forward while sticking to what makes it great.

We should know more very soon once Microsoft officially kicks off the Xbox showcase on April 16. Until then, keep an eye out because this could be the start of a fresh Metro journey underground.
