Death Stranding 2 Just Crossed 2 Million Sales Thanks to Its PC Launch

Death Stranding 2’s PC release didn’t just arrive quietly, it pushed the game’s total sales past 2 million copies. According to Alinea Analytics, that’s a big deal for Kojima Productions, showing that opening up to PC players gave the game a solid second wind.

PC players jumped in fast, and it showed

In its first week alone, the PC version of Death Stranding 2 sold around 425,000 copies. When you add that to the 1.6 million copies already sold on PlayStation 5, it’s clear the sequel is hitting well beyond the million mark. This quick PC launch came just nine months after the PS5 release, making it one of the fastest PlayStation exclusives to land on PC ever.

Players have been digging the game’s mix of unique gameplay and storytelling. Many praise how it manages to blend sci-fi layers with emotional themes like grief and recovery. One reviewer summed it up nicely, saying the game is “mostly about learning to live with grief and loss, with each song a track on Sam’s recovery mixtape.” That kind of storytelling is sticking with folks.

The PC release even gave PS5 sales a nudge

Interestingly, the PC launch didn’t just boost PC sales. The timing also sparked a fresh wave of PS5 sales, especially after a price drop on the console version. The discount doubled the usual sales numbers during similar promotions. It seems the PC release reminded people that Death Stranding 2 is still worth playing, bringing it back into conversations and media coverage.

Players on PC are spending serious time with the game too. In just one week, the average playtime hit around 18 hours, with over a third of players clocking 20 hours or more. That’s a strong sign the game isn’t just being bought – it’s being played and enjoyed.

What this means for Kojima Productions

Passing 2 million copies sold is a solid milestone, especially less than a year after the game’s initial release. It’s a win that helps Kojima Productions grow and expand. The game has pulled in roughly $110 million from PS5 sales and another $32 million from PC, showing that spreading to new platforms can really pay off.

Of course, the journey hasn’t been without hiccups. The PC launch briefly leaked ahead of time due to a Steam file update mistake, letting some players access the full game early. But that hasn’t stopped the buzz or the strong player engagement.

Overall, Death Stranding 2’s PC debut proves the game still has plenty of life and fans eager to dive into its strange, beautiful world. And if the sales numbers are any indication, this is just the beginning for Kojima Productions’ growth outside the PlayStation ecosystem.
