A New Star Wars Game Is Coming That’s Like XCOM

Here’s something you’re going to want to hear about if you love Star Wars and tough strategy games. A brand-new game called Star Wars Zero Company just got revealed. It’s not just another shooter or action game. This one blends turn-based tactics with permadeath, meaning every move counts and losing a character can be permanent. Plus, it’s being made by a team of devs who worked on XCOM, so you know the strategy will be top-notch.

This isn’t your usual Star Wars game—it’s tactical, brutal, and full of surprises

Star Wars XCOM

Set during the Clone Wars, Zero Company puts you in control of a customizable character named Hawks. But here’s the twist: outside of battles, you get to explore in full third-person, almost like the feel of an action-adventure game. Think Jedi: Fallen Order vibes before the turn-based fights kick in.

The combat itself is deeply tactical. You’ll plan your moves carefully, use the environment to your advantage, and face enemies like droidekas that can change the flow of battle if you’re not ready. One dev described a moment where they used a Jedi Padawan to pull an enemy into an exploding barrel—talk about satisfying. The game promises intense fights that create memorable stories, the kind that stick with you long after you’ve put the controller down.

The team behind it is packed with strategy veterans who know their stuff

Zero Company is being developed by Bit Reactor, a studio led by Greg Foertsch, who was the art director on the rebooted XCOM series. He brought along a bunch of ex-XCOM talent, including the lead producer Caydence Funk and lead mission designer James Brawley. This is a team that knows how to craft strategy games that hit just right.

Greg shared an incredible story about how this all started. One night, he got a call from Vince Zampella, the legendary Respawn co-founder and Call of Duty creator. Vince asked about a game Greg wanted to make, and after chatting, he essentially handed Bit Reactor the chance to work on a Star Wars game. Sadly, Vince passed away last December, but his impact on this project is clear.

Expect a game that looks amazing and feels authentically Star Wars

From what’s been shown so far, the game’s production values are insane. The visuals are polished and detailed, thanks to close work with Lucasfilm. Everything from the environments to the characters screams Star Wars authenticity. The combination of story, strategy, and RPG elements aims to offer something fresh for fans and newcomers alike.

Greg Foertsch even said this game could end up being the biggest surprise of 2026. That’s a bold claim, but after seeing how the team blends turn-based tactics, permadeath, and a strong narrative set in the Clone Wars, it’s easy to get excited.

So if you’ve been craving a Star Wars game that makes you think, plan, and maybe even cry when your favorite squadmate doesn’t make it, keep an eye on Zero Company. It’s gearing up to deliver exactly that.
